Vilnius team is working towards European news agency and remains faithful for coffee debates. Before Babel Lietuva will face the election of new council, a new section is starting in partnership with Sevilian team. It will tune the news from communities on the borders of European Union.

Vilnius was always a multilingual city with many religions. Sevilnius is the European Union with other multilingual and religious city Sevilia. In order to harmonize the vibrations at the margins of Europe, we are starting a new section in partnership with Sevilia city blog. We will discuss the different life styles of Europeans and will try to grasp the relation between them.

The general objective for 2008 is the launch of multilingual European news agency. However, the most important tool of Cafebabel.com is live coffee debate on the ground. During next year, Vilnius team is able to set up a couple of local discussions, and raise one question of high importance in international public sphere.

Most of us are waiting for interactivity, which should come with the new technologies. It was already last year, when the petition asking for online voting was signed by 15 000 people. That did not change much. While electing the new council of Babel Lietuva on the 2 of February we will have the discussion about online voting in Lithuania.

Last Saturday the recently launched cafebabel.com community was welcomed and discussed by Vilnius team. The response to the introduction of the possible topic for the next debate signifies that Babel Lietuva activities are just starting.

Whereas, the discussion of the new interactive community tools ended with so many different point of views, as empty coffee cups on the table, all the urgent questions will be closed in the weekly meeting this Thursday.

Both editors of Vilnius blog were expecting for more writing and translating contributions at the time of blog infancy. At the second stage, however, they certainly know how the authors should be motivated.

Vilnius team will forward the premium launch party at 17 PM, on 10 of nowember. In the hall of CONTI hotel (Raugyklos g. 7) the community made of 50 blogs, 20 city blogs and more than 2000 users registered will be introduced.

Join the tasteful discussion about cafebabel.com activities in Lithuania. After the tasks we accomplished in 2007 is counted, we will bring down the ideas for 2008. Using examples we will ask for your input to the successful community crossing mechanism.

The storm in Neringa on the first weekend of July has built a tower. Posts on Vilnius communities finally start. Preparing for the debate everyone will be able to discuss its topic on the forum. The challenge to dedicate more attention to the Russian audience met with unisonous approval.

During the weekend spent in Neringa Babel Lietuva team set a task to launch the third linguistic Russian version of http://vilnius.cafebabel.com „БАБЕЛЬ ИЗ ВИЛЬНЮСА“. The challenge to dedicate more attention to the Russian audience living in Baltic countries, Belarusian and Russian citizens met with unisonous approval. Active Vilnius(at)cafebabel.com is waiting for active Russian speakers.

The article about Šnipiškes "The Lessons of Capitalism" from Vilnius dossier written by Dennis Maschmann, who visited Vilnius last February, was posted in Lithuanian and started the serial of reportages on Vilnius communities. Thanks to the active people living in „Žvėrynas“ the first article in English will introduce to Europe the legal condition of Vilnius communities. Those who will keep on reading will meet the ambitions and capabilities of radical, green and artistic movements, religious, professional, territorial and national Vilnius communities every Monday.

The preparation for the upcoming „Active citizenship“ event will start in the recently launched Babelforum, where everyone will be able to express the opinion on the topic of the prospective debate. The decision which cultural, economical, or public education topic is proper and more actual for upcoming round of debate should be made by all of us. To me personally, the community of Cafebabel.com is not only a medium for online expression. Indeed, it is a perfect playground for the active mind. From a more global perspective, however, I find Cafebabel.com to be a cross border tool of transnational integration and cultural exchange in Europe.

Whereas Cafebabel.com is so positive and global, all the mad computer scientists should unite.

Keeping in mind the speed of technological progress, the online community read by the whole world could become extremely significant. In that case the internet would „dissapear“, would be great to sustain the debate one more day.

When Lithuania joined the EU people were saying: Lithuanians came back. However, Lithuania was always the part of the continent, where it was only never heard or seen. There is no need to say, that Cafebabel.com changes everything. To my mind, Cafebabel.com is a posibility for europeans to communicate, not for Lithuanians to try to talk to French people, or Germans.

Every European citizen should be equally heard here, because it is not only the online space, but the way of thinking.

Various forms of media corruption, distortion of the public sphere led by private interests, abuse of public opinion – all these things are just post-traumatic stress effects. The participation of exclusive Lithuanian language in the transcultural multilogue of European nations, - that is a perspective.

The rebirth of the mutual understanding is a sign, that Cafebabel.com will have nice future in Lithuania.

The lack of information about the European policies and the reasons lying behind them is striking all around Europe. Just see no other way to make European democratic governance work than developing European space of information exchange - effective and freely accessible to all concerned.

Otherwise it is a questionable whether Europian Union can be called democratic at all.
